We’re heading into the tail end of the year, and it’s about now that we start hearing things like: ‘there’s not much point talking to the media to put our message out there, when everyone’s going on holidays.’
We see it differently.
First of all, not everyone is taking holidays… well, not for the whole Summer anyway. I mean, are you? More to the point, do you shut down your business as soon as December hits and reopen the doors some time in February? Hopefully not. You might close for statutory days, but your business continues to exist, even when you and your team are on leave.
The same can, of course, be said of your competitors. They don’t shut their businesses for a quarter of the year either. But if they are falling for the, ‘there’s no point’ line, then Summer might just present a unique opportunity for you to stand out.
Let’s suppose many of your clients, or potential clients, are on extended holidays over this period. What are they doing and where? It’s likely they will be enjoying some much-needed rest and relaxation, perhaps lying by a pool, visiting family, or taking the opportunity to travel overseas.
But R&R today is very different to what it used to be. While many people disconnect from their work lives, as we all should, they don’t usually disconnect entirely from their day-to-day lives. In fact, because there are fewer professional demands on their time, they might just have more head space to properly read financial news. If you’re in it, talking about ideas and issues that interest or affect them, you are streets ahead of businesses that decide to take a publicity hiatus over Summer.
You’re also much better placed in February, when other businesses start clamouring for attention again.
Great PR is not just about what you say and how you say it, although that’s crucial (more on that another time), it’s also about consistency. You need to keep making waves in order to maintain visibility and engagement, even in the holidays.
All of which of course means… there is every point in putting your message out there – now, and all year round.
If you need help to do that, CONTACT US. We’re available all Summer.
